Does anyone have a rough idea on the kind of import charges I would pay if I were to order a hydraulic front disc brake from scoot RS?

That depends. Some time ago I ordered quite a few bits from ScootRS and had to go to a local Fed Ex warehouse to pick them up. Randall or his packer had put some obscure description of the goods on the outside label which would have misdirected any customs or duty interest and I didn't have to pay a penny extra. Whether that is still the case I don't know. I have just had delivered a reed valve from Scoot RS and there were no additional charges for duty or tax of any sort but that was in a small box.

Don't know about import charges, but it would be worth getting a price from Martin (Corrado on this forum) from Just Lambretta as he sells the ScootRS disc brake conversations. Really great bloke as well by all accounts

Officially you have to pay import duty (varies, but normally around 5%) on the cost of the parts and the shipping, then VAT on the lot. Then the shipping company (FedEx etc.) adds a fee for their time in collecting the money on behalf of HMRC.
Unofficially, ScootRS are aware that this puts people off buying from them, and seem to bend over backwards to avoid you having to pay anything. My disc kit arrived with a "fake" invoice just stating something like "motorcycle parts" and a low value. I didn't have to pay anything. They even allow you to go into your order details on their website and adjust the actual invoice, so you can print it out showing a value of whatever you want. Of course, that's blatant fraud and I couldn't possibly recommend doing it

Customs normally overlook items under a value of £40, anything above could attract their attention and they can levy 8% customs duty plus 20% VAT if the items are from outside the EU.
Its all abit of a lottery but I'd not rely on tricks and would factor in this to the final cost of the item to avoid disappointment. If they don't charge extra then its a bonus but it could be cheaper and less hassle to buy in blighty.

I've had to pay VAT on everything I've had from ScootRS. If the dollar is at a favourable rate its still worth it. If not you could try Corrado.

you are not under any legal obligation to pay any admin etc fees as the contract for delivery is between the sender and the parcel company, if you do get a charge for import duty only pay that part.
