I have a couple of pics of a fully restored Vespa VBB done to look like a GS from that film.
I will spare you the pain that is the full scooter and concentrate on the finer details:

Front hub locking device direct from restorer:



Massive slot in the forks for the pinch bolt:



Which allows almost full rotation and a good degree of lift on the headset when bolt is loosened.

This is the view down through the top bearing track, where the cables and loom are fouling the steering lock:



Not the clearest pic, but is it me, or is there a long tube missing that should join top and bottom bearing tracks together

Thats all pretty scary. Is this a running, registered scooter in the UK. VBB's are notoriously cut 'n' shut, where did it come from.

On the road and registered, in fact I MOT'd it on import.
BUT, in my defence, none of this is visible under test,
I just had to drop forks to sort steering lock.
My main concern is no steering tube, and the bottom race still only welded on the rear section attached to frame.
If it was to hit a large pothole, what stops the lower section folding up a tad, making the bearings loose and forks will then lift up and down

Other thing is, we are not allowed on test to use knowledge 'gained off test'.
IE, I can't fail it on test next time because I can't see it.

I wasn't really joking. If someone rides this, knowing it's in this state, they must need their head examining (or punching). It's not just their own life they're risking. If someone else dies as a result of it, they're unlikely to be prosecuted for it. And whether it's fair or legal or not, the MOT man will have a finger pointed at him. That's not acceptable.

In addition, when he/she comes to sell it on, if they're dumb enough to ride it like this, they're not likely to tell new buyer. If new buyer is the sort of half wit that buys any old tat that looks shiny, they're not going to check for whether there's a fork tube in it.

As far as I can see it then it's your duty to tell them. Off the record at least.

If they don't care, fair enough but watch for getting shifted on, personally I'd tell anyone and everyone about it. I like a Shed, but wooden
and not a metal 3 in 1 Tippexed Turd.

I do tell the owners of Nam junk what they have bought.
Only thing confused me was the fork tube, having been frantically looking at other Vespa frames in the last week or so, I have
found a VBA doesn't have one, nor a 152L2.
So I am now assuming that a VBB also doesn't, and the fork tube was introduced just after that era.
Odd though, 'cos it looks so wrong.
The steering lock is a bulky affair and is fitted from inside out, so with a tube in there it would be impossible to fit.

That said, it is still a horrible ghastly put together thing.
