They've certainly linked the licence DB with the passport DB as I just renewed my photo card and had the option to have the photo off my passport used, just as well that's only 9 years out of date !

I know they've got MOT and Insurance linked to vehicles- the final bit is surely the licence held against vehicle details so it gives the BiB the whole picture on ANPR.
Wondered why they always asked for "Drivers Licence" number on all their forms!!

You don't need a licence to own a vehicle, do you?

no- but don't you have to have it insured now or something?
Anyway if its mobile then somebody with some licence must be using it.

Would think a) common sense from a database point of view, and b) Got to be a good thing if a scrote is riding/ found in possession of a stolen scoot and said doesnt know name of owner or even does and then a photo comes up and..... its not him.

I wonder who is paying for all this.
And, wouldn't it have been cheaper to simply make everyone carry their licence around with them, if they're driving??

Continuous insurance is only needed if a vehicle is taxed.bristolmod wrote:no- but don't you have to have it insured now or something?

'cos crooks only drive without insuramce in vehicles that are taxed

You don't even have to be old enough to ride/drive to have a vehicle registered in your name.
My son has 2 scooters registered to him, 'cos they are his for when he is 16.

I think you're right Shaun.
This enhancement, if in fact it is forthcoming/ with us now, would be beneficial to The Force when used out on the road.
As well as supplying the usual data- vehicle details; tax situation; MOT; insurance; it would also pull in the Registered Keepers details as well and presumably supply licence details- Full or Provisional; type of licence; points etc.
IMO can only be a good thing- question is is it usable with our pressed alloy Black and White/ Silver numberplates?
We shall see no doubt!
