I've been doing Lambrettas for 33 years and have been a purist up 'til this point so this is a first for me. Anyway, I have a knackered Series 2 frame and I would like to do an auto conversion. It seems like an ET4 would be the best choice since it is air cooled and fairly compact. Plus I can pick up a wrecked bike to pillage other parts, such as the electrical, etc. Any imput would be appreciated.
4 stroke 125 ?
We sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm
harry mills from our club put an Aprilla SR125 2 stroke auto engine in his series 2, with a 25mm dellorto and custom exhaust and malossi 172 kit. these are basically the air cooled version of the Gilera Runner engine. another lad we know put an ET4 engine in a vespa PX lowrider style chopper , and he had no end of trouble trying to get it going , something to do with the immobilser on the et4"s, the only option he ended up with was a very expensive trip to an authorised piaggio dealer to sort the electrics out, so I think he shelved the project .

I don't get the joke. Anyway, I believe that only the 150cc version of ET4 was imported into the USA. I have never actually rode or even touched one but they do seem to keep up with traffic around town, which is all I want to do with this Lambretta. I don't think they imported the Aprilla SR125 here. We have not been able to get two strokes over 50cc in California for a few decades now.
you didn't say you were in Californication.....I suppose the engines will be more limited option wise. can you still use your 2 stroke lambretta in California?
Plenty running 2 strokes in Cal, you just can't get newish ones over a 50.
Not a fan of the auto conversions but I wouldn't p155 on your chips, if cheap and available then fire on. There's kits and exhausts available should you need more horses, I think the biggest stumbling block will be getting an exhaust that clears and doesn't look overly offensive. You may need to get one custom built but you've probably got plenty of options to do that. Whereabouts in Cal are you? LA and SF for a start shouldn't be short of knowledgable and fit people.

Look on Facebook...lambretta autos page. There are a lot of autos on there. Or look at lambretta innovations.
The series 2 can accept a variety of engines. Most people use 2 strokes. They are easier to rebuild and some have 10 inch wheels. Which makes the conversion look more authentic.
I have seen a series 2 with an et4 engine ....white trash I think its called.
Also an Irish lad has built an LD with et4 engine and forks. He sent me some pictures as I am looking at doing something similar with my LD.
A guy on here built an amazing LD auto conversion. Dean I think he is called. It was sky blue and looked fantastic. I think he may have gone 2 stroke.
You can buy an immobiliser bypass for the et4 for 70 quid in the UK. Most piaggio engines would suffice for your build as would the aprilia mojito/ Havana or aprilia sr. You could even look at the Honda elite scooter or something similar
