Depends, at the end of the day, why you are doing it. If you are doing it because you are a learner on cbt then beware if you have a bigger CC cylinder as your insurance then becomes null and void. If you have passed your test then it's a different thing and if it's a "historic vehicle" it's tax exempt so wouldn't really matter either way. If you are doing it so that the scooter looks correct then go for it but it's really a case of why you are doing it?
Every scooter i have restored is badged as what it is. It's identity is the frame number.
It can have any engine you like in it. But as has been stated there is an insurance issue if you do not hold a full motorcycle licence.

Are you sure? I'd wager good money that most people here are old enough to know better.ipman wrote:99% of people on this forum wont have valid insurance

I hope you can afford the potentially unlimited financial damages that will follow any accident you might have. It seems quite a risk to take for the sake of passing your test.

thats b@11@x mate.
As someone said its UNLIMITED financial hardship when you are caught.
Scootering since 1968.
If you are referring to the original poster (philz) he's not taking a risk. He says the scooter is downgraded to a 125 cylinder, which makes it legal for him to insure and ride on L-plates.ArmandTanzarian wrote:I hope you can afford the potentially unlimited financial damages that will follow any accident you might have. His conundrum is the scooter identity is 150. Should he badge as such ?
My answer to that is; If he intends to take a test and make himself legal to ride over a 125cc. Don't put cc badges on the scooter at all whilst on L-plates. But fit the correct identity badges (in this case 150) after passing the test.

Surely if it's a 150 with a 125 engine it can be badged as a 150. As far as the insurance company are concerned its a 125. So nothing illegal. If you get stopped by plod you can correctly say it's been derestricted to a 125. Can't see a problem.
