thinking of upgearing my ts1 currently running final drive at 5 using li150 with 16/47 and jl4,looking on stickys chart recommended final drive of 4.8 ,is this a usable ratio?generally ride two up but seems to rev high on cruising 8000rpm at 60/65 ,would like it a bit easier on the engine while cruising
cheers

Your questions dont make sense 16x47xli150 =approx 1000rpm per 10 mph

I'd have thought that you would spend most of your time in 3rd gear trying to ride a TS1 2-up with a JL4 on 4.8 unless you really rev it to the max through the gears and keep it screaming in 4th, otherwise revs will drop and you'll fall out of the powerband and be struggling along until you change down to 3rd and ring its neck again!

4.8 is the right 2-up 4th ratio for a JL3 Road pipe, rather than the JL4 Race pipe.

LI150 15/46 at 5.2 will IMO be the right ratio for 2-up use with the JL4.

Unfortunately, if you don't like to rev then the JL4 is the wrong pipe for you. The JL4 was designed as Taffspeed's Group IV Race pipe and behaves like a race pipe. Whilst the JL4 does have good torque compared to some other pipes, it isn't great for relaxed road use. The JL4 also has poor ground clearance when used 2-up so do be prepared to kick your 2nd person off to go over speed bumps etc.

Great BHP figures on a dyno though!

Just bought a Franspeed Supertourer from Andy Francis, who recommended a final ratio of 4.9. Mine is a standard GP200 gearing at 5.2 final drive and a JL3. So for me, with this new pipe, its either a 19 front sprocket, with a stretched 82 chain. Or a 46 rear sprocket and 19 front sprocket with a 82 chain. Both options end up around 4.9

Use the Excel gear visualizer to play around with your gearing, see link https://avantone.wordpress.com/

But like rest have said, JL4 is a race pipe that needs to be revved high to keep in the power band. Probably looks good on paper, but frustrating to ride with your mates on JL3's.

not worried about over revving it but the actual road speed is quite dissappointing at high revs,as far as the power of the bike i can pull 2 up in top from about 30 without having to change down thats why i thought i could higher the gearing,as far as gear calc charts and actual road conditions rpm to mph doesnt really equate but i feel i should get more speed for the work the engine is doing

You may be ok with 4.8, I guess it'll depend on weight of luggage + riders, whether you live in a flat or hilly area, etc. The only way to know for sure is to give it a go.

Personally, I don't like being on the edge of pulling 4th, where it will pull but only under the right conditions. I'd rather know that it will pull 4th correctly in 90% of circumstances and I don't have to keep it flat out for fear of dropping out of the power. This is really more about rider preference.

Good luck and I hope that you get it set up as you like it.
