Not logged on or posted anything for ages, but have come on looking for some help please. Getting bits together for an engine build and have picked up a new mild steel Saigon Taffy from a mate who bought it to replace his Taffspeed Mk4, he didn't need it as Mick Abbey managed to sort out his old pipe. I wondered if anyone knows what the max rpm is with these and can they pull same gearing as a MK4? I want to use it on a reed stage 4 Suzuki 230 (60/110) has inlet 195, trans 128, ex 186. I have a gearbox SIL 200 that I'd like to use with right cogs and this pipe to get a decent top speed without revving the tits off. Hopefully a few people have some experience of this pipe. Thanks.

I run one on a similar set up on an iron 200 reed.I've kept to a 5.0 final drive with a pacemaker box, probably you could run lower but I'm happy with the all round performance of it,quite too.only thing I've modified is to make my own tail can bracket from the rear shock mount as I didn't like the supplied chain case one, revs out around 7k as previously mentioned

Ok cheers : ) Been looking on AF gear chart it recommends 4.5 - 4.7 for a Taffspeed MK4, can't find what's recommended for the Taffy though.
But searching on here there's a graph on an old thread - exhaust bhp V torque. On the graph there's a Taffy and a Taffspeed overlayed and the original has 3.5bhp more at 5.5k rpm over Taffy, they both seem to rev on a bit higher than 7K but bhp drops right off, the Taffy goes on to nearly 8k but with less bottom end to begin with. Also thread says header pipe on a Taffy is 1" or there abouts shorter than a MK4. Ultimately looking to get 70mph at around 6 - 6.5k and have a bit more left on tap...if that's a reasonable assumption?

That's about 4.7 ratio..if you have the torque I can't see why not....I've just kept mine at 5.0 with a pacemaker,if I lower it any more first gear becomes a pain off the mark..or it least it was when I ran it at 4.4 with my ads3
