cos the old one is damaged and worn...............not to mention that is an indian 3 ring..........

so how much will that cost? and even though it is indian and worn the bloody thing is still not worn beyond seizing,will the new one stop it from seizing?

i forgot to mention that i bought my 225 engine from a chap who kept on seizing it ,guess what, the old piston was an asso,he spent his money on a new asso and it still kept seizing!its had the 'joe treatment 'and doesn't attempt to seize now !

apart from rectifying the top end on this............its also important to concentrate on the basics..............first sort out the cause.........for the probs that have obviosly occured over the past couple of years
such as timing
carb settings
integrity of build....bearings,seals gaskets
comp ratio,......squish...............

Its not as bad as I thought it would be......But its far from good....As Shaun says, find the underlying cause of the problems first..... before refitting a new two ring Asso (my choice of piston for a standard or mildly ported cast barrel)...Or if you cant afford a new piston, make sure someone who knows there way around reclaiming the old scored piston and barrel prepares it, before re fitting...... but it will at the very least need new rings and a hone......All the best, and thanx for posting the pics.....

one thing, if i buy an asso piston will it fit the barrel ok after it's honed out?

i would get a new piston then get barrel honed to suit . seems the most sensible idea to me

Cleaned the barrel & piston up to a more than satisfactory degree & rebuilt the whole top end sunday. Slipped in 2 shim washers in between the end of the gudgeon pin & piston, as stated for 200cc machines. Mate did the flywheel timing bang on the money then I gently eased the refurbed barrel over the piston, making sure the rings were located correctly... lovely, put on the exhaust, carburretor, all the fan cowlings & new spark plug. Fired it up, second kick & it ticked over for about 4 seconds before coming to a clunking stop! So stripped the whole thing back down again & found that one of the aforementioned shim washers had not been aligned properly causing it to jump out & squeeze itself between the piston & the barrel, taking a f@@king great chunk out the piston in the process.

New piston (66.8) and another hone & clean up and she's been running sweet as a nut.

Took her out for about 20 miles so far this week. Been running it in not going mad, taking it steady. Just got back from covering roughly 40 miles this evening & the same old rattling prior to seizing scenario is still there. Its doing my head in now. I will look at the exact jetting to my 22 mm dellorto carb tomorrow & post the details. I have cut out the air scoop (widened it internally) to allow more air flow...I really think its time to hand over my engine to the professionals.
