When strobing my Honda 205, arrow lines up perfectly with timing marks until high revs and the arrow goes mad! All over the place.( af lightened flywheel )
Replicated this when out on the road as at the top end end of the rev range (65-70 mph) it feels like it's "missing" / pulling back, drop the revs and it's fine.
Jetting not changed 4 years after dyno.
This is the 2nd stator by the way.
Would the CDI braking down cause this behaviour? Or what else?
Strobe issue

I would suggest swapping out with a proven CDI; it's the only way of proving or eliminating but I guess that's what you're already planning to try.

It's gonna be tighter when your engine goes bang!
Seriously though, all good suggestions above and assuming you can investigate yourself then removing and inspecting the flywheel costs nothing at all, nor does checking the readings on the stator if you have a multimeter. If you don't they can be had from maplins for less than £10 and will always be a handy tool in the fultrue.
A cdi is less than a tenner too for testing purposes, and good enough for a spare in the future too.
So, if you can do it yourself, less than 20 quid could save you a small fortune.

Thank you one and all, good advice all round will let you know my findings
Has the motor ever run right with the AF flywheel, is it new?
There was a problem where the magnet fixings, being a dissimilar metal, caused false triggering of the pick up at high revs.
