I can compress it in a vice to check the plates clear, but when on scoot can't seem to compress it with clutch compressor?? I have the Li actuating mech. Will it be OK once fitted and with the engine spinning? Seems very tight on the cable. I have the correct centre button for the LI mech.

I've got the £200 version, had to take it apart and clean up the turrets so plates and steels slid smoothly, unfortunately I assumed it would be plug and play so only discovered the problem once I'd fitted it. Half an hour to clean up the turrets and no problems since, although mines in a GP engine.

Thanks Eddie. That's already been done. It's got me puzzled. I don't really want to have to put it all back together and fit exhaust etc. only to find I can't disengage the clutch.

I found on both my AF and Morris clutches that they require minimal compression for them to function. I too tried to compress both with a compressor and found they went 'coil bound' after a couple of turns of the compressor. Once assembled though they both ( especially the AF ) work very well. I can see your concern considering the amount of compression you get from a standard clutch though. My AF is the race version so required no fettling so if you've cleaned your road version up I'd be inclined to fit it and see how you go. Good luck Pete.

Think I've sussed it. Just been and measured the length of the threaded part of the cluster against another spare and the one I have fitted is 12.5mm and the other only 10mm, so the centre button is hard up against the top of the cluster before the clutch is compressed. So I have the choice of shimming under the clutch which may misalign the rear and front sprocket and risk the clutch rubbing against the kickstart mech, swapping the clusters (assuming they are the same ratios) or getting the end of the one I have fitted turned down so there is enough clearance.
Had me perplexed for a while and then "Bingo," Realised it was the only thing it could be
Worth checking if anyone else is fitting an AF 6 plate cassette.

Sorted. Changed whole gearbox for another 150 box i had with a shorter cluster thread. All buttoned up together and clutch now operates fine and frees off when lever pulled. Zhorst back on and runner board. Just got to sort the M Tech out now.
