Why would you want a set of these cases?
I'm not interested in the reasons not to buy them, cost, no history, we're doing the R & D , blah blah blah just why are they a good thing
Is it all about high powered motors or is there something else that they will be good for.
I'm looking to build a decent power/speed cruising motor that des not require fully synth oil and gives much better than 25 mpg.
What's the opinion.

Why not? If you want one buy one, if not dont worry about it!
I dont, reason if i want something that reliable modern needs little maintenance good economey ill ride my gts if I want something easy to work on gives a nostalgic feel close to the " difference" that I feel from a lambretta rather than a machine thats more modern than retro but if its what you want then crack on22/2 wrote:Why would you want a set of these cases?

Please don't get the Misano cases mixed up with the BSG casings that were displayed at Bridlington. I'm not suggesting that any of the previous posts were confusing the two, but I have seen posts on other forums/threads that do.
I've written at some length in this month's Jetset on the philosophy of tuning within the confines of the Innocenti design. Having said that, there will always be the opportunity to push the engineering and eventually the casing becomes the limiting factor.
I don't want to be the guy who says enough is enough.

I'd guess there's a number of motivations -
Eventually we're going to run out of decent original cases, SIL quality has been decreasing steadily as the castings deteriorate. Innocenti are not making any more and if we want to keep the old trolleys on the road then somebody has to make an alternative or we'll have to keep paying increasing prices for increasingly decrepit casings.
The new casing has a few innovations which make some improvements to the original design. For the purists they can pay the increasing prices for tatty old casings but eventually a brand new casing with improved serviceability / flexibility will start to look economical for those that aren't bothered about originality.
The hunt for performance means that original casings are being destroyed beyond economical repair fairly regularly, further decreasing the supply. Evidence the upswing in the economic viability of converting small block cases to take big block cylinders.
It's a vanity project, Tino's name will now forever be associated with development. Don't underestimate the effect of ego over the immediate or future practicality.

I would definitely say it is not vanity, I think that is doing Tino a big dis-service. I've never met Tino, and technically we have competitive products so I really could not be described as someone who wants to ingratiate themselves or cosy up.
I would say it is Tino's passion to develop these things and I would say from personal experience it takes a lot to dive in and commit to these projects. As projects go they don't get much bigger than doing the Twin or engine cases, so hats off good job.
As several people have pointed out, the casing brings time saving benefits to people who wish to produce engines with more power but without the necessity of extensive modifications to increasingly rare original engines which struggle to hold together when modified. Features such as stronger engine mounts, bigger crank web capacity, reed valves, bigger base gasket faces, these all help and save many hours.
So in answer to your original question, "Why?" it is about building powerful engines and providing an alternative.
