It's probably been done before, but I thought I'd post a few pics of how I did mine, using a short ratchet strap. It may or may not work with LI or SX links, but it works a treat on GP ones.

Cheers Timbo. I've painted them myself with rattle cans. I'm really pleased with the result. I'm also pretty pleased about not scratching them fitting the links.

I found that cutting down a two pint plastic milk carton and fitting it over the boot before using the fork spring compressor helps prevent paint getting scratched ;)

This will only work with the 'loose' ball rods though. If you are going to use the solid type rods, you'll need a fork spring compressor.
