and it's useful to coat the kickstart shaft and clutch top plate with engineers blue before reassembly.
then if there is any rubbing you can see exactly where to remove some metal
but don't be tempted to take too much from the kickstart shaft, as they can break there, and it's always the ones that have been ground down too much that shear...

I had a similar problem, kickstart shaft inner bush in the side casing was protruding too far. Bush tapped in reshim on kickstart shaft, job done. Had this on a couple of side casings. Hope this is of some help.

andy you were right,the kickstart bush was protruding slightly,tapped it in as you said,also measured the clutch shim,came in at 1.4mm,ordered up a 0.8mm,will see how that lines up.
