hi,already posted in an earlier post re- gearbox noise, turns out the inside of the kickstart shaft is rubbing on the clutch top plate, ive already removed everything and ground down the top of the plate and the bottom of the shaft where I think its making contact,i didnt want to take too much off, everything back together but noise still there,it goes away as soon as clutch is pulled, does anyone know what the plate thickness should be for a gp and if gp and li plates are the same thickness, also are there different thickness plates being sold out their,

have you got the kickstart shaft shimmed on outside and circlip in place to pull it away from clutch?

Brian, GP clutch top plate is 3.0 mm, all other types 2.5 mm thick but as pointed out the position is determined by the spider arm length. The difference in thickness will only matter below the plate giving a little extra separation if required.

It was only after I posted and was giving it some thought I realised the plate thickness wont make any difference as its down to the groove in the spider and circlip, are there variations in different spider groove hights ?

Yes there is. One made in India will vary to ones made in Italy or Vietnam. I'd check the one you have against another one and also check that the clutch shim you are using isn't too thick. Even a faction of a mm can make the difference.

Have the crankcase side machined down 1mm ,where the shaft sits, and use an over size washer on the outside.
