I think you`ve answered the question.

I have the top end work (by chiselspeed) but also bottom end tune - inlet opened, carb box matched and genuine crank with inlet cut.
I use a disc flywheel (with toothed ring removed) and a T5 fourth gear
Currently running a sip performer pipe.
this set up has been mechanically bullet proof - only failing has been stator/cdi over many years

Just about to change to a new Harry Barlow tuned top end and SIP Road pipe - be interesting to see how it fairs against the above.

andycap, to get the best out of any topend tune, you need to do the bottom end and at best on a standard barrel tune get 14bhp, for a few quid more kit it, pound for pound there's no comparison between a kitted tune and standard tune...

Horses for courses - depends what you want or need

standard top end tuning with a pipe and up jet can have a vast improvement on a box standard bike - without a bottom end tune and as such without massive outlay.

The mild tuning of standard top ends that Ralph Saxelby and Harry Barlow brought to the table transformed many P2`s.

I do have a bottom end tune but personally wouldnt use kits (malossi, polini etc) as I have had massive success with tuning of standard top ends (accept that I now use Autisa barrels but they are a standard port layout - before that my first tuned top end was a genuine piaggio)

Dyno session/stats and HP`s don't interest me - Its about what it does on the road and if it suits the riders needs.

My set up has done me proud on thousands of fast long haul motorway miles.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but can I pick your brains Gaz_P? I read somewhere that you were using beedspeed pistons for your autisa kits. I think you also said you were using piston/ bore tollerances of 0.004". Had any joy using these the pistons mate?

I've a standard 1977 P200E with 2500 miles on it, one of the first, yes 1977. 63 GPS on the flat and fast enough for me. The older I get, the less I think about tuning, standard scoots seem to be forgotten and they were set up well by Piaggio and Innocenti.

My P2 disc has had a HB stage 4 tune just on the top end and with a sip road 2 feels much better than before. It was a £100 tune (two years ago) and have proved very reliable so far.I was considering a 210 kit but i just couldnt see the point.

harry barlow kit is 200 pound. polini kit is 300 pound. polini kit is a mutch better choice for the extra 100 pound even with a standard pipe and carb. saves all the friggin around
