temp gauges

was thinking of adding a temp gauge of some description to my rapido 240 motor but don't no which to go for , egt or cylinder head temp gauge ? . which would b e more useful ?. cheers simon

I don't really need either as I can usually hear what's about to happen to my engines but I have a new dash board and fancied a few gauges and switches ect to dress it up with . but if it had to be one or the other , which would you have ?

gives you something to look at while falling asleep on a long trip get both, tells you much more than either one on their own can.

I have to agree with Eden, both are useful but really need to be read together as the information from the EGT can be confusing unless you know what to expect during the different operating stages of you engine. For instance, your exhaust temp might normally read around 500 degrees C at a steady 50mph and if it suddenly shot up you would rightly assume that something could be amiss. However, if the temp goes up suddenly when you drop down a gear and give it some revs, that doesn't necessarily mean that the engine is running hot especially if you have a retarding device fitted to the ignition. Definitely a lot to keep you occupied on long journeys

One of these on my coop.
Mine's used with an EGT, but it can be set up with a CHT (I have a Vapor for that).
It's a good bit of kit. Tried a Koso one. It was rubbish. Sensor made of cheese, and the unit itself wasn't a lot better.

They look a quality bit of kit, albeit a bit pricey. I liked the look of the cylinder head ones they do. what one did you go for and how much did it end up with post and import duty if you don't mind me asking

I ordered a revolution volt meter 2-16"dia with warning light @ $83.00

revolution egt in centigrade gauge 2-16" dia with warning light @ $170.00

revolution 10k tacho gauge 2-16" dia with with mini shift light @ $125.00

all with white face and dark green numbers and also added the smiths logo as well. I also got a new dial and new glass and bezal to match a gps speedo which I bought a couple of years ago to match the new gauges . the gps speedo fits in my series 1 headset with only a little bit skimmed off the ally ring . the total inc shipping and tax is $450 at todays rate it is £269 oh and a credit back to me of $14 due to a me making a cock up on the sizes of the gauges . so for a set of bespoke gauges made to your design I think that's good value and with a lifetime warranty and very good customer help and back up.

I cant wait to try them out and the re build has started on my series 1 as the body work is now back from the paintshop . cheers simon
