I've been intending to post this for a few years ( has taken that long! ) ....

I found a Jet200 in August 2010 ( its taken me that long ! ) which had been stored in a garage / outside under shelter since the early 90's. It was a very typical 80's style! 30mm Dellorto , Fresco , Chrome tanks, cowlings, headset top , tow ball engine mount covers, chrome horncasing ( long flaked off ), Snetterton, 4.00 x 10 tractor tyres! etc....

Amazingly the bike would start and run ( admittedly only on choke ) and everything worked! Lights, brakes, horn etc! In fact I think if I changed the plastic head light lens which had gone opaque it would probably have passed an MOT!

The scooter has some greenery growing on / embedded to the legshields from its time outside, and like many scooters of the time had been matt blacked!

The frame had the Jet ignition hole on the frame loop and fuel switch hole on the bridge piece, but at some point the ignition and fuel was moved to more 'standard ' positions.

The initial thought was to do a super trick stealth scooter that was very trick but very subtle and under the radar.

The engine was stripped and internally amazingly clean and in decent condition overall

Image

Once stripped a few bits ( carb and exhaust were sold off as no longer needed ) and the frame went to be blasted by a friend as a favour.... it came back with a satin black coating.

I was absolutely amazed at this point to find underneath the original paint that the frame was in a perfect condition! In fact other than brand new frames I don't actually think i've seen one as good.

After some porting work to the crankcasing after having it blasted, I applied some satin black paint to the casing

The Jet casing has the holes for rubber bungs for brake pad inspection

Headset painted satin black and rebuilt

And the engine started to slowly come together

Well.. its been a while ... and its now almost finished after a few twists and turns on the engine specification.... even now its only a temporary engine whilst Ian frankland does me some work on a spare 1990's group 4 barrel ;) ;)

Rear Hub was stripped and repainted ... round and true! Spanish Quality!
Image

hydraulic Disc added..... Original Jet Fat dampers cleaned up well and work superbly

Image

Front End all reassembled....

Engine in ( using temporary barrel set up )

Image

Rear Mudguard was the original 1980's chrome. Spend about two hours cleaning and reploishing the surface rust off it .... came up well

Image

New Old Stock Amal 34mm body
Image

Retained original 1980's satin black (!) bodywork.... patina !

Image

Two 1980's scooters together!

Like it. What's the reason for the bumpy things on the forks? Would they do much protecting there?
