weedodger wrote:have you taken the green wire out of the cdi unit? then run it, if it runs fine, it will be your ignition wiring in the headset, put the green back in, run it and see if it still misfires? iv just had similar problems wi my casa 185. i thought it was the stator, but if it starts and runs etc, i think you can discount the stator, as your readings are fine?
Cheers ill give that a try and let you know!

Hi,

I know this was a while ago, but just wondered if you worked out what the problem was, as I have a very similar problem with the Varitronic on my Super Monza :(

I'll try another stator plate, but good to know if there was anything else causing the symptons you mentioned??

Cheers :)

just had one on dyno with similar symptoms that owner has suffered for 3 to 4 months ,i suspected the cdi and when went to swap i removed the spade connector to find it was a loose fit ,a quick crimp to tighten up and the misfire/poor high rpm running was cured

Darrell mine is the opposite, poor low running. If I thrash the tits off if all day its fine. If I do a slow ride out or get stuck in slow moving traffic it kills the plug?

I replaced my Varitronic stator - after approx. 3 thousand miles - despite it giving good readings, and that did the trick. Have you strobed yours, as mine as jumping about all over the place - once you gave it some revs - steady at tickover and max revs - but new stator cured this. Other than that, I'd be looking at worn atomiser, needle, slide etc - they don't last long - with all the vibration - in a tuned motor!
