I wouldn't put Shell fuel in any scoot just out of precaution. I took me P2 to the I O W the year before last and ran out of fuel a mile before a garage because I fefused to stop at the shell I was nearest to. Last year Andy Gatecrashers took his T5 172 Pinasco to I O W and fuelled up on Shell. Five mile down the road seized it up. We stripped it, cleaned the bore and fuelled at the esso just up the road and it was fine again after that. Shell is not good stuff.cheers,Speedy.

I think the barrel should be stamped with the corresponding letter mate, all down to tolerances I think.

Ideally you need the correct piston for the barrel, if you've melted the piston crown I don't think you'll be able to see which letter it was???
Perhaps you could have it measured by a grown up and work it out from there?
As for carb settings......... last 172 reed I played with had 40 slide, 50 idle, X2 needle (can't remember which notch,) AV264 atomiser and 135 main, it also had a Sean Brady reworked crank.
It was quite rapid but the lad I did it for didn't have it long so can't say how long it lasted.

So where did I get "reed" from?
Another senior moment methinks.
