81 link chain with split link
ordered a 81 link mec eur chain off ebay,i have recieved on with a split link, with a small cotter pin to hold the split link,it has cm stamped on one link, any know if this is a mec eur,its going in a ts1 so wont fit it with a split link, anyone heard of a cm chain, have i been sent what i orderd, cheers all.
i also bought one of ebay, same make from a "reputable " dealer, it too came with a split link and small cotter pin, the pin the cotter pin was in could be moved up and down and would " drop" down and catch on the chain tensioner,. i returned it for a full refund.

Had the side casing off friday on the 225 engine and had a wee look round and found this..

The chain looked ok on the sprockets and while having a quick look over it I saw the pin half out.

I found exactly the same in a mate's iron 230 that I stripped, with the split pin on the magnetic drain plug and nothing fixing the link pin in place, which could have worked out at any time.

I converted an 80 link chain to 81 by using a 'one and a half' link' that utilised a pin with a 'clip' (MB sell 'em) to keep it in. Ten years later still going strong.

^... I have one of those too, which has lasted well.
It is very simple the small split pin wears as the chain articulates, someitmes it will slide out and others
actually break just luck of the draw.

A split pin would always be a nagging doubt in the back of my mind it really isjust something else to go wrong , I dont know if it would be capable of locking the gearbox up if it came apart but no amout of pulling the clutch in would release a locked back wheel ...
