A good rear shocker choice that's adequate.

Be careful with the Hagon you found.

I had one on my little used SX200 which put on back in 2010.

Took it off and the top bush had snapped off. This was a reported design fault in the early Hagon shocks but was replaced at no cost with a current model when I reported it them.

Top service that which many other suppliers could do well to emulate!

Right folks, I have just fitted the Hagon that I found in me shed. I realised it came with a bag of spares I got when I bought a couple of scoots in 2012. Now to me this shock seems wrong and I daren't use it on the road. When you run the scoot, the spring vibrates more than a rampant rabbit, and the split collar at the top that has Hagon cast on it,turns freely. Kinda got the feeling that if I hit a good bump in the road, it would fall to bits. Any thoughts,cheers,Speedy.

It could be one of the bad batch that snapped so I wouldn't use it. If you send it back to Hagon they may well refurbish it for you at no charge.

Cheers Timbo, I'm deffo not using it on me scoot. Think I shall try and send it back as I looked at one on me mates scoot tonight and that seems different and the top collar is made of stronger metal. Borrowing a shock to go to Newark on Friday,so hoping to find something that suits my requirements there.Speedy.

It's one of the earliest ones [not sure how old but around 6 to 7 years old] as only the very early ones had that type of collet arrangement at the top and it may also be 315mm eye centre to eye centre. The collet should be under compression and it should be difficult to move in normal circumstances, so maybe the seal has gone. I'd send it back and ask them to check it out and pay for a rebuild if they'll do that. Design brief was a UK built shocker with simple 3 stage adjustable compression to suit different circumstances, ie from single riding to 2 up with luggage but without any extra bells and whistles at a mid market price. At the time there was very little available between £50 and £150. After quiet a few broke, all at the exact same spot at the top, it was decided that the bushing was too stiff to cope with the movement in a Lambretta engine [fecked engine mounts adding to the problem]. Hagon advised, through Scootering Magazine, for owners to return them for checking and replacement where necessary. I'd be amazed if they got anything like 50% returned so I imagine there's plenty of unchecked ones out there.
Send it back via www.collectplus.co.uk and it'll cost you around £6.50 ..... considerable more via the post office because of it's weight.

as an aside, company originally started by Alf Hagon, a famous Drag Racer of the 1950's and 1960's. Still alive as far as I know but no longer involved in the Company (son runs it?)

Just borrowed a shock off me mate, a Hagon, to go to Newark with, before I buy one there hopefully. Now this shock was one of the faulty ones and was sent back and refurbed at no charge and is to the new spec. The strange thing is though that the spring still rotates, as doed the collet, when you stand next to the bike and rev it. I've only ever seen 3 of these shocks on scoots and they all have done it. It just seems a little strange to me. :?:

I've had mine for 2 years now and spring doesn't rotate, have you wound up the preload to max, you're just a little heavier than me, but
mine is wound up to max
