i,m sure some sort of re inforcing around the clutch cover /input shaft area is what is needed......... :D

Its good to see a water cooled conversion on the forum, makes a change from all that hot air  I like the way the coolant is fed up from the barrel into the head, very neat. My own malossi LC is nearly complete but would love some more details of the rest of the cooling system (What pump does it use? is it temperature switched? what temp does it run at?) as details on these conversions are thin on the ground.

Dan, I reckon if I'd posted up that barrel with my name on it everyone would be saying "small ports mate". Just because it at Mb on it then it must be great.
I hope you do new casings for it and dyno it.
In the meantime.. i know you delved into port/time area a little so you will understand why 54x54 is the magic number and more importantly why it is. Then taking that fact on board look at that 220cc barrel again and have a rethink. Now its a nice piece of engineering as MB stuff invariably is. But thats a lot of effort in the wrong areas to me. I dont think that will make good power at all. What pipe was it running? Some off the shelf unit designed for standard timings? To get good draw through those narrow tall (as you say)ports the pipe would have to be designed specifically otherwise we are heading up the narrow powerband route ,and I doubt very much it was. I never understood the steel liner idea either.(should be ally) Thats a backward step to me if we are looking for performance and seeing as its watercooled and all the port work then performance would surely have been the aim here and money not an issue. I dont expect the "oh it can be rebored " argument because it can be re nicasiled.
What are the plans for it now?

hi tony............
my job here is to just rebuild it..............thats all i,ve been asked to do..........
and hopefully in a better /stronger way............
i appreciate fully your comments as regards further improvements/tuning etc.................
but as i say that is not my instructions from the customer in this case...........
having said that...........
i simply cannot resist the temptation to modify the std crank a bit to aid intake flow.............................

It would be nice to get a dyno readout on it sean. Good luck with the rebuild.

on the strengthing of the casing point i asked the local aloy welder if he could run a bead around the primary area and tok me old casing to show him where it cracked beleive it or not mine are worse than the ones on show here ;)
he strongly advised me against it something to do with when welding it weakens the area around it or summat i did say that worb5 do it and he just said yeah but those germans dont tell you when they break do they or how many times they go through casings?

so i thought f@@k it
