I have just installed a new NGK plug cap to my normally hard to start Avanti, it started third kick which shocked me as I usually have to kick the hole off of it after a layup ( I had cleaned up the ht lead and connections following its refusal to start a week ago so that may have contributed to the ease of operation this time) Anyway the new plug cap has 10k ohm printed on the body whilst the old one is a 5k ohm, is this something I should be concerned about? should I be using 5k ohm caps exclusively? will the 10k ohm cap cause problems? your advice will be much appreciated.

It definitely wasn't the fault of the Avanti, that goes like a train. The problem has disappeared with cutting 10mm off each end of the ht lead and changing the cap, the resistance rating of the cap is my concern now

Ye not to sure on that one ? I do quite often cut of either end of lead as a precaution, keep an eye on the plug top thread where the cap fits on as i use a couple of caps a year as they seem to lose the grip

It's a resistor cap to stop people's telly's going wonky when you drive past 'cus of the high voltage discharge at the coil. Shouldn't make any difference.
