GT big block experiance : New GT crank info added
yes and ive been reading some stuff about it on the internet and its shite apparently.
Complete and utter engine buster!
Wouldn't mind betting that has gone to E10 already.
The V Power is supposed to have a 99RON (Research Octane Number) compared to the 'ordinary' which has a 95 rating.
Tesco Momentum and BP Ultimate are both 99 I believe.
About 5p a litre more expensive though.

Bit of a sickener Eden. Hell of a coincidence if you both had leaks within a mile of each other! I had a carbon copy on the M74 a few years ago. Half of the pumps were fenced off coz they were waiting on a delivery. I thought it might be the dregs from their tanks I got? Russian roulette at fuel stops! Bob
The only thing i'm a bit pissed off about is that it happened 5 days before I set off to do the lands end to john o groats trip.
The engine is built back up now waiting for the barrel to come back hopefully tomorrow night, then I need to get a few miles on it before we go on Thursday.
you right.. it is Russian roulette filling up these days

I had an egt gauge when i holed a piston on my Rapido. I had slight pinking cruising at half throttle. i wound throttle back and saw the egt gauge dip (from 600 down to 500) a few seconds later the piston holed.
I expected to be worried about the egt gauge showing signs of over-heating but the gauge was telling me it was retaining heat in the head, hence the blown piston. If i'd have had a cht as well this would have shown this. So IMO an egt gauge can be more confusing than helpful unless you know how to read it correctly....which i didn't

would octane boost been any help when you put normal unleaded in, or what about ethomix ?
interested to see what people think, I only ever put normal unleaded in but I have to admit this is worrying

Eden, do you have EGT gauge fitted, if so, what did it show prior to holing the piston?

Shell fuelsave was the very first fuel to be reported as a high ethanol fuel and to be avoided at all costs.About three years ago Ben at AF's were having loads of customers with the same issues and everyone of em was fuelled on Shell. We tend to forget these things at times. Going to the isle of wight last year, I had to push my scoot a mile as I was heading for a fuel stop, but forgot it was Shell. I t never quite made it to the BP one at Didcot. But I simply won't use Shell fuels.
