The horncast looks neat, is that a one piece fibreglass unit as well?

I also love those rims... and the dampers as well!

I am not tall (5' 10") and the seat is at about the same height as a standard bench seat. It was reasonably comfortable, but with rather limited options to move you arse about when it got sore. It also leaks water into the foam, and there was plenty of water around to soak into the seat.

The reaction of people was very positive, though I did seem to have to explain why the boot as open rather too often.

In the middle of the night, I was trying to get to sleep in my tent, and I heard one of my mates shout "I can't shut the boot on Martin's scooter. Come and give us a hand!"

On the way home, the pipe that links the crankcase to the membrane-controlled fuel tap came off. Air got into crankcase, it ran weak and popped a hole in the piston. Oh dear, and it rather took the shine off an oterwise excellent rally. All for the omission of 2p clip.

The horncast is all ali. The rims are striped with tape from Halfords. It is about £8 and comes with an applicator. It fits better on standard rims rather than wide rims (!). The dampers are Spanish thick 'uns, with the plastics removed and the rubbers re-bushed. They cost me a mighty £3 at Wicksteed. Yum yum.

The curious thing, was that having spent two years building this thing, and after looking at it for 10 mins, several people said "I love your oil jug holder". I fitted a simple bit of short tube to hold the jug at 23.30 on the night before the rally. It took 5 minutes. Perhaps I wasted my time on that six-month development of front disc and anti-dive............

Hi martin.. i really like the scoot except for the rear end bit.. what is going on there then! I'm thinking you may have taken the abarth thing just a little to seriously! :D But most people so far seem to like it... you'll be telling me its aircooled and italian next.... er.... :D

The open-boot for the rear-end is quite the opposite to taking it too seriously; it is intended as a mildly tongue in cheek homage to the Abarth Fiat 500. You can just about make-out the open boot on this photo:

It is a pity that this example doen't feature the little nudge-bars at the front, which were the inspiration for the small crash-bars on the scooter.

Is it not easy access to the Cdi to remove the earth......Fair play doing it all yourself Martin, not sure about the boot personally though.

Really nice work martin, seeing as the piston went bang you've got the impetus to get the 240 built :D
