I have a wiring diagram but its no help to me at present. I need to understand how a batteryless magneto points ignition system works but I cannot find an explanation anywhere.

I have all the wiring loom stripped from the scoot except the stator (6 coil) , coil points condensor and junction box .

I need to check the stator for a spark at the plug .
What is the minium circuit I need to get a spark ?

I don't want to fart about refitting the loom, headlight connector and ignition switch . ;)

Green from Stator direct to HT coil (marked "15" I think).

The other HT coil terminal to Earth.

HT lead to plug.

thanks Chris but there is a little more as I have finally stirred my one brain cell into action.

Green from stator feeds the coil and the kill switch which is position 0 or off on the ignition switch.
Green also feeds the points (via the condensor ) which is earthed.

I just need to add a wire to the green wire and take that via a switch to chassis earth to act as a kill switch if I add petrol and try to start the engine.

For now I don't need it to test the circuit for a spark. ;)

sorry- confused now

You were asking for the minimum required to test for a spark- that is connect the green stator wire to the coil.

If you then kick over the engine, with the HT lead on the plug against the block itself, that should prove one way or another if you have a spark.

If you want to see if it will run (and be able to stop it!) put a switch in the green wire extension

I thought that was what I said ? ;) I just added the points and the condensor for completeness otherwise you'd struggle to raise a spark lol

What I actually asked for was an explanation of how the circuit works but I've figured it out for myself now thanks Chris.
When i get a spare moment I'll do a litle schematic and explanation that might help others understand how the magneto points batteryless ignition system works
