Just split the engine oil on piston side.
When I pushed the shaft out the seal came with it.
So must have been loose.
I did nock it into place last time but no loctite.
If I use the rubber coated one again you cannot punch the edge can you.
Or it would damage the rubber coating ?
That one came recommended by a vespa mechanic.

If using the metal edged seal, another trick is to run a file down the edge, creating a small line, bout every 10mm all around the outside diameter, which should help to stop it spinning. Defo use some type of loctite too.

Totally agree, same as what I do. The metal oil seal with brown rubber. Stick it in with Loctite 603 (green) and several dot punches in the seal edge to stop it turning.goldeneye wrote:use a metal drive side seal, locktite it in, the green will be ok, (is it 714 or summat like that?, ive used a few different kinds) I use an old piston to tap it home (its an old polini T5 152 piston ground down), I also dot punch the edge of the metal seal into the casing in a couple of places. some recommend the blue cortecco seals lately, but ive had very few problems with the metal ones over the years ,so I just stick with them , and fit nowt else.
Even though yours has spun a seal, it will still be ok if you do it like this

Been to halfords and got some granville bearing and stud lock.
That should be ok to seal and hold the clutch side seal in ?
I am going to use a centre punch on the seal edge aswell.
How much do you put on the edge as if you put to much in won't it go into the bearing behind ?

you only need a light smear, make sure the casings and seal are clean and dry and free from oil. you only need a couple of small dot punch marks. if it ever needs doing again , just punch in a different spot. put a little bit of grease around the lip edge of the seal when you put the crank in, and turn it a few times as its going in, to stop the seal edge getting damaged or torn. any excess grease or oil will burn off . and if running autolube, first tank of juice with 2% oil in to let it prime itself.

Put seal in it's flush with metal face.
Did 3 center punch marks.
Now when I spin the big gear on the input shaft it rubs on the back of what seems to be the bearing behind the clutch seal I have just done.
When you turn the shaft it just rubs a one spot not all the way round ?
As if the gear was bent
