the small block Mugello in my Special has done about 15000 miles, but has desperately needed a rebuild for a while now...
so I thought I'd do a bit more to it whilst it's apart.
got the 60mm crank with RD400 rod fitted now, going to use an RD350 piston and the reed block from an Aprilia

then the plan is to fit a power valve based around the Aprilia guillotine type.
hopefully I haven't been too ambitious, plan is to get it on the road for a shakedown run to Southend LCGB rally...

AF webs [wouldn't necessarily be my first choice, but came from a mate's little used, twisted AF "Race" crank] with an RD400 rod, fitted and pin welded by CS Engineering.
I was going to fit it to a 240 build, but that's been sat on the shelf for 3 years, so thought I may as well use the crank in this engine.

What's the big hole in the mag flange for?

I was wondering about that too. Sounds like an interesting project Jarv, is the Aprilla reed inlet going to be an easy fit? I've got the MB Short Reed inlet that I was running on my SR 225 sitting here, you're welcome to borrow it if you need to get any ideas for clearances. Obviously it's got 200 stud spacings though.

Actually, I've worked out the mag flange thing, that power valve is going to need a decent DC feed so you must be considering maybe a 3 phase stator conversion? I remember Chris having one sat on his shelf last time I was at CS 8-)

yep, modified mag housing to fit Yamaha stator, included control for power valve,

Chris' work of course, similar as used on the DACs, but mine will be have a fan on the rotor as keeping it air cooled.
The hole could be closed, the plate for the [external] pickup could be thinner, and my casings are a fair bit wider than standard around the transfers.
I think that later versions may be closed, I tried this on a few different casings, with different cylinders; I think generally it would be preferred to have no hole, but I am happy to leave it like that on mine, and I wanted to get on with putting the bottom end together...

cheers Colin, but I have removed most of the inlet side fins and all but ½ of one stud hole from my Mugello cylinder, the Aprilia block may be welded onto the barrel, or maybe a fixing plate welded on... need to do some more clearance checking next...
