MB Clutch Springs vs Readspeed Clutch Springs....
What did you use in the GT from the start and dis they perform well?
I used some old s**t I had lying around the garage floor, they lasted ok while taking it easy but soon f@@ked up once I started using the power.
Interesting thread this
What about clutch plates? Is there a test or known rating to say which are best?
For example Surflex B, Surflex Greens and Readspeed Red which drunkmunkey is using, how do you know which are best?

Ok thanks. Don't use the power then...eden wrote:I used some old s**t I had lying around the garage floor, they lasted ok while taking it easy but soon f@@ked up once I started using the power.
I've always used up righted MB ones in all my tuned engines and they have been good as long as the clutch itself is in shape <~I guess there is a lot of blame and shame in springs when there is actual malfunction in the clutch itself...
there are some dodgy rear sprockets out there too, I had one which was new that would bind with the spider causing both drag and slip.
Well spotted Mick, the MB definately has an extra turn / coil, could be the answer right there!mick1 wrote:Could be the pictures but the MB spring wire looks slightly thicker, also (again could be the picture) the MB appears to have 7 turns whereas the RS has 6.......or is it me ?

It does have an extra turn/coil.....well....about 1/2-3/4 actually, hence its 1mm longer from the start. But the point is, after compression....the RS one is about 5mm shorter than its starting length, and doesn't return to full pre-compression length. This in my humble opinion is probably due to the material/metal composition rather than the 1mm difference.Bert Oni wrote:Well spotted Mick, the MB definately has an extra turn / coil, could be the answer right there!mick1 wrote:Could be the pictures but the MB spring wire looks slightly thicker, also (again could be the picture) the MB appears to have 7 turns whereas the RS has 6.......or is it me ?

I tried putting an RS spring in the vice and I can confirm that the spring didn't spring back to full length,
MB and GT ones did spring back to full length.
MB and GT ones did spring back to full length.
Hello
Was there any feedback on how the reedspeed 5 plate clutch performed ? I am thinking of buying one.
Thanks for any help.

If you are referring to the Reedspeed budget 5 plate, I have been running them in a TS1 and an Avanti 225 both with MB springs and have had no issues at all. The Avanti has been up and over the Hardnott Pass (lots of clutch slipping needed) and also did a 1600 mile round trip to Davos in Switzerland last year with no slippage and an easy clutch action.cgt75b wrote:Hello
