Are you masking them or are they masking, as this can make a difference to the price and the finished jobsp1v wrote:Just dropped casings & mag flange off for powder incl blasting, £70 all in. Thought that was quite reasonable.

The casings are brand new. I have degreaser and wash going to wash the down with degreaser, but how clean do they need to be for the proper engine paint, it is heat resistant but it is not the exhaust/barbicue paint, which I have been told does not work.

Give the casings a rubbing over with wire wool followed by a good dousing with carb cleaner, that should stop it flaking.GLscoot wrote:The casings are brand new......how clean do they need to be for the proper engine paint, it

Carb cleaner leaves a residue, better to use brake cleaner, or better still, IPA.

Agreed I had some stuff done where they'd blasted it with such coarse media that it had made some unmasked threads very 'rough' and blew a load of holes in an exhaust. They then proceeded to ignore the masking instructions and coated everything inside and out.soulsurfer wrote:Are you masking them or are they masking, as this can make a difference to the price and the finished jobsp1v wrote:Just dropped casings & mag flange off for powder incl blasting, £70 all in. Best to find someone who knows what they're doing and pay a it more than try to save a few quid and end up having to replace the parts because they've been wrecked...

I was recommended to clean my carb with brake cleaner for this very reason.coaster wrote:Are you sure about the residue Mike? IPA = IsoPropyl Alcohol... don't drink it
