Losing my (steering) bearings......

Well I haven't yet but fear I might. I'm replacing the steering bearings (top and bottom) on my Eibar S2 and was thinking of using just the balls rather than the race but I have this vision of balls dropping everywhere off as I insert the forks. I know you have to use liberal amounts of grease to hold them on but anyone got any other tips? Also anyone done this on an Eibar where the mudguard will be attached just making everything a little more difficult?

dont think there would be any probs with the top set, I would insert forks to the highest point where you can still fit the lower loose balls and lots of sticky grease!

Thanks Dave seems like good advice and I am working on that basis. I have everything set up in position and a jack under the back of the frame so that I can pivot it down on to the forks with minimum movement - I need about two inches to work in. As you say top end should be a problem once the forks are in. Cheers.

I did a Spanish Winter Model, firstly make sure you have sufficient room to slot the forks in one hit, I let mine hang over the edge of the work bench, plenty of grease on the top and bottom races. Place the balls on the top first, then the bottom, wack the forks up, hold in place whle you fit the top nut and you're done

Remember you need more balls and if splitting two races apart, to measure the balls from both sets as they can differ.
