Yeah, this keeps jumping out at me too. Was the bike fine previously or have any changes been made since it was running well? If the bike is running badly now, the changes could well be the issue.

I may have overlooked you answering this already. If so, I'll shut up and go to the back of the class

Yes it was running fine, but I intended to beef things up a little so it would cruise at 70 rather than go balls out at that speed, hence the additions. It does 45 now so I'm over half way there.

Years ago I bought a standard exhaust & rode down to Kent. It was murder all the way until I got to the rally & beat the 'mushroom plate' is it? ...out of the silencer & it flew home. Well it feels like I'm being restricted again. Could it be the reed block not working properly, or the agusto not timed right? I think the latter might not be the case as it starts & runs up to speed smoothly Its working wih a ducati cdi which was running as it should so no reason why it shouldn't now. My mind keeps telling me its the exhaust, although its not coughing or spluttering at all.

What have you done regards the timing, i.e. what is it starting at and retarding to?

When I fitted my 6000 unit I had to seriously extend the slots to the max before I could get a reasonable starting figure, allowing it to then retard to a decent full retard figure to. I'd previously run an 8000 unit and that did not need the slots elongating so much.

You'll need to know exactly what it is ranging to/from before you can decide what to do next. If you start low then the retard function will go too low and you'll lose lots of power... as you describe. This doesn't mean that you should simply elongate stator slots and hope for the best, this really is something that needs strobing across the rev range.

PS - That's not to say that this is the issue... but it could well be!
