What's the latest consensus on the best rear hub bearings out there?
I'm thinking interchangeability here, allegedly there's issues with some bearings and certain combinations of layshaft and gearbox. So if you were considering a new one with a view to maybe updating the gearbox to something less standard later what would you put in?

I always use the MB bearing, they fit perfectly and are excellent quality. Good question though, as rear hub bearings are very hit and miss.

Normally that would be my choice too but I thought some had had a bit of bother Thoth those when fitting cyclones and that's on my wish list if I can ever manage to save enough...

Fitted one of these to mine, http://www.torbaylambretta.co.uk/Rear_H ... 01038.aspx
I am playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order.

Ive always found genuine SIL/JBL to be spot on
I remember years ago when there was no other make available (No CASA/MB/RIV etc) and I started using them out of necessity and have continued.

Used a Casa in mine as was going to use the MB but was told there were problems when shimming the Cyclone box.
Have used the MB with standard gearboxes and never had any problems though

I always try and reuse the original Innocent ones, if they are okay they go in and I've not had a problem.

How do you decide if they're OK? I have a couple in the shed ...

I just push the middle and see if there's any play. Innocenti seem to have turned them down to perfect, so remade ones just aren't quite right. Unsure about buying SIL ones but the ones in the new engines seem to be okay. I've only ever had one of those bearings go bad and that was on a Jet.
