Ring wear
Stripped the top end down on my rapido race 225 for its winter overhaul, doing all the usual checks getting it ready for this year.Anyway checked the ring gap which was 1mm,this is after about 4000 miles done last year, nice even wear no gummed up rings etc.Delly 30 open mouthed , just seems a bit quick for the rings to wear so quickly
New set fitted and checked in the barrel 0.3mm exactly with no filing needed, so I'm happy with that.Mitaka piston , running groundsman at 3%. Does that seem excessive to wear out so quickly?
I am playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order.

Typically I'd expect about 8-9k for a set of rings but considering you have no air filter and the potential to drag in road dust and, more importantly, road spray (which carries massively more particles than air) then I think 4k isn't a huge problem.
Look on the bright side, if you measure your bore with a bore comparator I bet it is hardly worn at all which is why your new rings have the gap spot on. Personally, I'd replace rings at 4k miles per pop than re-bore, re-plate and new piston time.

Cheers for that Rich
