Thankyou all for your input here,it's appreciated. Now regards the other kits mentioned thus far.Now what he has as way of a set up is a 42mm clubman[but that can be upgraded if necessary] and a 22mm phbl dellorto, which threw me as I thought they only did 24 and 25mm,but hey ho.He's been told he cannot use any bigger as the airflow would not be enough for the larger carb on a serveta airbox set up.This has been modified and holes drilled to aid flow. I cannot comment on this as I have only used air boxes on a standard 150 and one standard gp200,everything else I have run has been open mouthed carbs. Could or can the classic Rapido 200 or Mugello 200/225 be run on this set up without it strangling the kit to death and would they give him the uphill pull that he requires, along with better fuel figures? Thanks folks,Speedy.

Maybe just by adding a small reed manifold on to the Stage 4 barrel that might sort out both the bottom end/pull and fuel economy. There's the MB stubby or the cheaper and smaller ScootRS atomic mini, I think Chiselspeed and probably other dealers do stepped rubbers to help fit a smaller carb. Could the carb he has be reamed out by a mil or 2 as well without effecting how it's run through the airbox. A local tuner could have a look at the barrel to see if the ports could be slightly improved...exhaust port widened a touch for a bit more torque maybe? Lots of people want the sort of power/delivery a stage 4 gives and I guess a Mugello or Rapido run through a 42mm clubman wont be much different to what he's running now. Just thoughts really but hundreds of pounds cheaper than new kits.

Cheers all for the input, but I have a few more questions if you would. Now the carb he is using is,as I've said, one I've not come across,a PHBL 22mm.This he is running through the Serveta airbox which has been drilled to aid airflow. Now he is running this as he has been told that the size of the airbox won't allow the use of the larger carb,ie the 25mm one.I've never used airbox/filter set ups on kitted/tuned motors,so am a tad out of my depth. Would the 22mm version work ok on a kit such as the Rapido classic/Mugello 200/225,or new RT225,,combined with the clubman,or would it strangle it dramatically.Cheers,Speedy.

If he wants to stick with the same pipe and carb but get it better up hills, why not:

a) Fit a shorter gearbox. LI150 with his standard 15/46 sprockets will give him the same ratio as a GP200, allow him to pull up hills much easier and not really limit top end by much. if at all, or

b) Leave everything the same, other than have the barrel rebored to 225 and buy a head to suit.

Either way, this should still work with his carb, airbox and pipe, simply pull easier up hills and give him better top speed (b) or no real loss of top speed (a). People are very quick to buy kits or look towards tuning but there are other options, with the 2 listed being very easy, reliable and cost effective.

Thanks Adam, good food for thought there and also to everyone else. If he went 225 on the sil barrel, would he be best to leave the porting as is,or maybe just have it flowed a little better, without having a proper stage 4 tune done. Also will his 42mm clubman surfice,or should he opt for a 48mm or perhaps go all out super clubman, ancillotti or gori etc, etc? cheers,Speedy.

Surprised by this as I'm running a 225 Classic Rapido, 30mm phbh and MB Big Box and am only getting 13 bhp on Dan's dyno.

something wrong with it maybe or a better spread and less peak. my shitty slugello 225 gave more than 13 bhp (just) and thats not a fast scooter at all. in fact it will not do 70mph whatever i do to it.

jb s dyno by the way

I do wonder sometimes why people spend so much money to get kits for big block engines that are inferior to small block kits.

Less effort to just throw you money out with the rubbish, surely?
