Saigon 5 plate clutch problem.

Fitted one tonight but when I tighten chaincase down those last few turns, the clutch is engaged. I have ground down the bit round the brass plunger but still not enough clearance. A mate is running his without the shim at the back of the crownwheel but won't this affect the chain alignment? What may help is slightly machining the brass plunger and the stud that fits in the bearing on the clutch that the plunger presses against but I'm not sure how easy or effective this will be. A thicker chaingasket would be the easiest thing to try but I can't see anywhere that sells any other than cam lam with a 1mm one , used to be 2mm ones available , anyone know where I can get one?

i would say something is not right these 5 plate clutches should go straight in. where have you had the clutch from?

Just got it from Saigon scooters last week. I thought they were plug and play. it is in a jet 200 with a gp chaincase.

I had to modify mine, I had to grind down the brass plunger area of the chaincase cover, and then I sanded down the face of the brass plunger. I have a good 2k on the clutch, and it is awesome. No more slipping clutch.

One other note about the clutch is that it engages and disengages with very little movement of the lever, so it takes some getting used to.

thanks, I'll try some of these, already ground down where the brass sits and now it is slightly higher than the surround so I'll try taking a bit brass off first , then the bit it plunges onto and then I'll try a thinner shim if all else fails, not sure about running it with the brass plunger pressing directly onto the bearing though.

Take a little bit off the backside of the brass plunger also. You might need to take off more than you were expecting.

If all else fails, try running it without the adapter that sits in the bearing.

under the clutch is a shim,,have you checked the chain alignment,i had to machine the base of the clutch where the shim goes to get the chain to align this also made the clutch brass bush touch before it should,
you may find the same,simple check with a couple of steel rules.

Finally managed to get a thick Cork gasket 1.5mm (£4.20) - MS Classic Scooters 0151 944 1123.
