Agusto setup

I have had my agusto 6000 for a couple of months now, waiting for the opportune time to fit it ie when I had to take the flywheel off next
So I had to replace my LT coil today so fitted the agusto.
My timing was originally 19 degrees , I fitted the stator fully anti clockwise and started it up-so far so good... I fitted an online type strobe and watched the arrow on the flywheel move clockwise as the revs increased which I think is the right way?
But on tickover the arrow was slightly before my 19deg mark and but went way past it (clockwise) when revved - I don't think this is right?
I haven't road tested it yet but could I do any damage if I have the stator in the wrong place? Or would it just impair performance?

hi mate if it isnt right dont use it when u rev the timing should retard
have my stator fully advanced then let the agusto do its job

That's how mine is working , it just seems to retard past my 19deg mark.

Having said this I hadn't got my earth wire attached between my engine and frame when I tested it, I expect this would affect it.

yep, yep

so what is your timing ending up at at 6000rpm and beyond ?
if it's retarding too much for your taste, then you need to advance some more, if your stator is already fully anti-clockwise, you would need to enlarge the slots to achieve this.

Not sure what it retarded to but I assume if it retards too much that top end will be affected?
Would I be right in thinking that it would be safe to ride though even

I was just about to post exactly the same thing. I have a 7000 one, on an RB 250. The timing was set to 17 degrees, and on strobing this it was spot on. Then loosened the stator and turned fully anti clockwise. On starting it the timing mark was just before the 17 degree mark, and on revving went way past. Could it be the wrong type ( maybe an 8000 needed) or the CDI or the stator. I think I would have to grind alot out of the slots to egt it to rev back to the 17 degree mark.

I have to say I went for a run this evening - what a difference it's made!

So smooth through the gears, no spluttering at low speeds as before - i even think i was running at lower revs to acheive the same speed(might have imagined that one though) really have to say I'm impressed.

I am however going to re-strobe it tomorrow night - i have a few other niggles to sort out namely a squeak from my head gasket and a kill button problem (which i will start another thread up about)

I'd need to know what my timings are, make some more marks on the mag housing and see what's happening.
I set my Agusto by deciding how much i wanted it to advance to at higher revs, a conservative 17ºBTDC in my case, then set the tickover to be the amount the unit alters the timing. which is about 6º for a 7000 model, so around 23ºBTDC.
Turning my stator [from Scooter Restorations] fully anti-clockwise would have put the timing at tickover beyond the 26º mark i'd made, so at 7000rpm would still be at least 20ºBTDC, which would probably be unsafe.
but, yep Dazza, take it for a ride, if it don't pink, you're probably ok... I'd still want to know what the timing actually is when doing though...

ah cool. you didgo or a ride. yep, i'm pleased with mine, like you say, the difference at lower revs is quite noticeable [as one would expect]
