thinking of getting a Agusto 6000 is just a plug and play job or do they need setting up
thanks

Need setting up, ideally on a dyno with an operator that knows what they're doing.
Turn On, Tune In, Cop out!

Setting up on a dyno would always be the ideal way of doing it but if you are methodical then you could get close without. You will need to reset your ignition and then do LOADS of plug chops. A dyno would shorten the process and remove some of the guess work but results will depend entirely on the skill of the operator.

Coasters right though ....if in doubt get it properly checked out and dyno'd and plug chops.........I haven't done that yet, but instead listen to how quickly the revvs drop when I throttle up to see how rich or lean its running. I will do the tests though, downside is if the Augusto fails you have a scoot that's incorrectly timed up, I think

if the augusto fails your ignition will not work, and you definately need to get it set up on a dyno unless you intend to ride at full tilt ALL the time, in which case whats the point??

Fitted a few Agusto's to ,Lammie's . Never had one done on a dyno , Main supplier for the units in the uk is Chalkie at replay scooters and I've only ever fitted them using a timing light to make sure the timing retards from 18 degrees BTC (before top dead centre) down to 15/16 btc. used to set them from 20-17 but with all the problem fuels much safer now to run them lower to hopefully combat the damaging fuel .
Use the plug stop and cambridge lambretta timing disc to set the correct postions on the mag housing then adjust the stator plate on its slots to find the exact point when the arrow ( on the flywheel ) lines up with my marks on the mag housing . If set right the arrow should retard back from the 18 degrees down to 15/16 degrees as the scooter is rev'd . Use the 6000, for standard machines etc. the 7000 for light tuned motors and the 8000 for monster motors Like Lord Jon's that has someone riding it with a lead wrist LOL.....
Run one on my TS1 225 (7000) then kept it on my home tuned iron barrel 200 would never run a Lambretta with out one now , massive improvement low down in the gears . And as mentioned as soon as the scooter has an ignition problem whereever it be stator, CDi etc the Agusto will not let the bike run. It's as far as I'm aware not going to blow the engine up if the agusto fails( never happened on any scooters I've done) as the spark doesnt work ,acts like a cutout.
Please feel free to see how I've done them http://www.addo-pix.com/lambretta---a-way-of-life.html , hope it helps everyone interested in them. I know there is a few similar units on the market now from many dealers Readspeed, chiselspeed and MB and I'm sure they are all great but the agusto is very simple and works .. Hope this post doesnt upset any numpties who don't agree with my honest opinions if it does .... TOUGH !

I've just got a kytronic advanced spark magnifier thingy, stuck it on and it does the job well according to the strobe gun. Not ridden it as of yet, I have set my timing at a healthy 25 ish degrees and will mess about a bit with it and see how it goes. I'll keep the 7000 agusto on the scooter it has served me very well. I liked the theory of the kytronic so I'll give it a try.
