H4 headlight conversion

i cut up a repro s3 holder and added glued in the h4 block.
not a perfect job and would take my time abit more next time but was in a rush last time.
h4 bulb from the pound shop but osram nightbreaker 55w are the best to get so im told.

I've posted this before but h ere's some pics of mine on an LiS, it's been tidied up a bit since but should give you an idea. The benefit of the H4 conversion over the Beadspeed type lamp is that a 55/60 watt lamp is available and as mentioned, the Osram Nightbreaker is brighter still.

Basicaly just needs a bit of dremel work on a spare bulb holder to make room for an H4 socket (Halfords) which I glued in place with plastic metal. The spring in one of the pictures has since been replaced with a piece of spring wire similar to the original. There are variations with the holders so the actual work to make the lamp fit might vary slightly, both mine were slightly different but both perform very well.

I have countless H4 bulbs in my "spare bulb" box. "Uprated" ones from Aldi, "HID" look ones from various scources. I've ordered a spare GP bulb holder and I'll get a connector block at the weekend and give it a go. It looks as though the metal shield with the prongs will have to go to fit in a GP holder.

With the GP holder it's very simple. Just remove the existing prongs to the bulb and file the existing hole slightly bigger so the H4 bulb is a nice tight fit. The connector just plugs into the other side, the bulb holds it tight. The 3 prongs on the outside of the bulb usually just tear off with pliers. Red and Blue wires as normal and splice another wire into the Yellow and connect to earth on the block. Blocks are about £2 then get a H4 bulb set from a pound shop to try but they're 55/60 watt so rear LED bulb is a must. Quality H4 in 35 w are available but not cheap.

I've had a scootrs halogen lamp in my lis for over a year, brighter than a px headlamp, no modification, just slotted in, is the gp lamp holder different or am I missing something

Probably not, I was just taken in by the Sparkright blurb at the time but the £3 build cost is cheaper than most aftermarket halogen bulbs.
