Rapido & Avanti cylinder head
Dropped the engine today to give the scoot its annual overhaul, running a Race Rapido 225. Got my wish list of what I want to do to it (all depends on funds
) one being change the 48mm clubman but thats another story.Anyway to my point,I like the idea of getting one of the Rons Avanti cylinder heads from AFR http://www.afrayspeed.co.uk/index.php?p ... buteID=HEA I know the new head would let it run cooler would this mean I could up the timing a degree or 2,at present its 16 BTDC static,so say up to 18BTDC? Anyone using one of these on a kit other than an Avanti or even with an Avanti be able to offer any feedback?

I am playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order.
Yes, i'm also thinking fitting an Avanti head on my ts1 225. Does anyone (OAP!?) know what the situation is re squish / compression in this situation?

I have one on my Avanti and liked it so much I used one on my TS1 build earlier this year. Personally I would not risk advancing the ignition unless the compression ration was lowered to suit.
Personally I would not change the ignition timing but pipes do have some bearing. But you can run a B7es plug up to a point.
Compression ratio's, AF are stocking 10:1 uncorrected but other ratios can be done to order.
Just to clarify AF are stocking 70mm (71mm actual) for 225's & one for their 250's both are machined to suit their pistons.
I stock everything except the 250 version, they are from AF only, having said that it will be 2 weeks before I get any more in apart from the Avanti Kit version.
Squish? what do you want to know? RM

The Avanti kit does not use a head gasket and has the "lip" on the head. If an Avanti head was used on a Rapido/TS1 barrel would the "lip" still be used or would a gasket be required ?
I suppose if the "lip" made the head too low could packers be used ?

The heads for TS1 , Rapido & cast iron cylinders are machined without the recess

Are these available for small block Ron?
Turn On, Tune In, Cop out!
Yep, AF are doing them for the RB20 although they are O/S at the moment, should be about 2 weeks ish.
I will supply for any small block to order, one problem is the head cowls are only produced for large blocks so the three cowl screw holes have to be filed slightly.
And no I am not paying to make a pattern for that before anyone asks unless someone would like to place an order for at least 200. RM

Excellent, thanks Ron. How much would the head and cowling cost, and can it be machined to predetermined spec? Pm if preferred
