I've used Silkolene medium gearbox oil for yrs in all my motors or a medium weight gearbox oil suitable for wet clutches,it's never needed to say "ST90" on the bottle.

Dopeshots,
Maxima MTL 85 is a GL3 Gear Oil, which means it has mild EP additives. These additives offer more protection to mating parts by creating a chemical barrier between Gears etc. As a comparison Rock Oil ST90 is a GL1 oil and as such as no additives other than anti-foam etc. Just to be clear, EP additives do not create Clutch slip. Another GL3 Gear Oil is Castrol's ST90.
And just to finish with a little advertising, Scooterotica, Chiselspeed and MB endorse and sell Maxima Oils.

I've used that previously and it's good stuff. But could I find any the last time I needed some... All I could find was the light oil and that's used in MX's apparently. So, I bunged some of that in. Heaven knows what it's rated at as it's not entirely clear from the label. However, it seems fine and goes well enough on it. Obviously the same advances in engine oil are also true of gearbox oil because it looks like we can move the goal posts a little.
