Rally won't rev

I've added a 74 us rally to my collection and I used it for work last week ,it started to slow down on the motorway as the week went on ,it was off the clock early in the week ,then 70 then down to 60 and last night it dropped right down ,

It will start first kit but won't rev ,its goes a few hundred yards then the revs drop off ,I've clean the carb and today I removed the petrol tank and cleaned the filter on the bottom and blow the tap out ,but again it started straight away ,but won't rev and will only do about 25 mph .

It does have a bit of back pressure in the gearbox but would the drive seal make it not rev out .

I've changed the plug and the coil is fairly new ,it's standard with a sip road exhaust and I've changed the petrol in the tank ,although it was new anyway .


At not point did the engine cut out it just misses ,no backfiring or alarming noises at all and if you let go of the throttle it just drops back down to tick over .

74 would make it a Femsa, never had one myself but I've heard they're a nightmare once the ignition starts to wear. Not what you want to hear I'm sure but you might need to ditch the ignition, crank etc. and go Ducati.

Hmmm does sound fuel/air related but i wouldn't rule out the ignition system. What happens when you put the choke on ? is there any difference. take side panels off and remove carb filter....give it a short run... Any difference ? If seals are gone i'd expect you'd see more smoke from the exhaust. Keep us posted

Umm you don't see smoke from the exhaust on vespas when the seal goes :-/ That's Lambretta's.

With vespa's the fuel gets pushed into the gearbox and your engine fills with petrol, hence the easiest way to check is the old trick of draining the gearbox and if you either get a lot more than 250ml of gear oil or it's thin and smells of petrol then that's your seal gone.

I would take the stator off and get it re-wired, some of that 70"s vespa wiring can be very brittle now. if you've went down the fuel /clean carb route it sounds like ignition. most parts are available for Femsatronics nowadays (pattern and expensive, but they work ) one of our lads runs a Femsa Rally 200 no probs, goes allover on it. stick with it , as it would take its soul away converting to Ducati electrics I think. that is a lovely scooter and I'm very jelous.

I've emailed the guy I bought it off in Oregon because he replaced the coil ,as it played up with him a while ago and it turned out to be a loose wire somewhere ,hopefully it's the same wire fingers crossed .

And Donnie I know your right I'm just hanging on ,if I end up riding my s2 to Sydney it will cost me a fortune in juice and I really want to go on this .

Beedspeed have just rewired my femsatronic stator plate and checked resistance. Cracking job and quick turn around

times 2, I use Beedspeed for my re-wires, always a top job and costs about ten quid +postage. It"s not worth p1551ing about for a few quid. got a vespa /lammy hybrid stator on my lammy Special that Beedys did years ago, never had a bit of bother with it.

I've contacted beedspeed so just waiting for a reply and I'll send the stator over .

I just had a quick look and a clean out before ,



There's a small cut out in the flywheel is this normal ,







I think I need to buy another rally so I've got a spare parts supply
