Overheating at 25%-50% throttle

1200 F is 650 Celcius....and he's talking about exhaust gas temps not barrel temps.

The reason why scooters blow up on way home is because they have been set up by an operator who doesnt know what they are doing. They do not realise the reality of road riding when compared to a free running roller.

The slide is a 40. I don't run open mouth. I use a GP snorkel with a pod filter, as I have a long range tank taking up the space where the airbox was. Running open does not change the problem, even after re-jetting.

like team-v says dan, we here of loads of scooters going belly up shortly after a dyno run. if they are to high light problems, or get a scoot running better (surely the point of the run in the first place?) why are the "negligent scooter owners" not informed of any weaknesses BEFORE they leave? and only find out on the way home? are these "negligent scooter owners" informed of thier misdermeeners before or after they"ve payed......... dave in portland, hope you come to a satisfactory conclusion to your problem, it can be frustrating. try swapping a carb with someone with a similar set up, not easy i know in the states. could be the wrong kind of oil........ :lol:

obviosly the probs that other people have on other peoples dynos are not our concern...................
how can we possably comment regarding this............?
in our case............if we think there are mechanical.electrical or many other probs...........then we advise so..........and presume they will get these rectified before attempting a further dyno run.............

cant remember mentioning your dyno in this thread sean. dans quote was about negligent scooter owners. i"m glad you point your customers in the right direction. it"s a pity some others don"t . but the reality of it is, there are a lot of scooters, that are well looked after, by knowledgable owners, with years of experience looking after their rally going scooters, who just want that "little bit more" , or fancy a dyno run because it"s the in thing. and the results have been a knackered engine. the opposite of what they wanted. and they"ve paid for the privelige! like i said in my initial post, 3 in a fortnight that i know of. one lad has had to spend £700 just to get back what he had in the first place. his quote was "i"m never going near a f****n dyno again". so i"m not alone . a dyno might be a great tool, but so is a hammer. if used wrong , they both have devastating results....................

Your statement in your first post was that EGTs and dynos were the cause of the problems and are just 'snake oil', my response was only to point out that the eqipment is not the problem.....other things are, whether it be the dyno operator, the scooter owner, or mechanical failures beyond anyones control. Now your latest post is banding all dyno operators as unscrupulous rip-off merchants.......which is not fair to brand everyone with the same iron.

If the dyno operator leans up the scoot just to show a BHP gain, its his fault. If the scooter owner has a scooter which is a complete wreck dynod (which is the last thing such a scooter needs) and ignores good advice, or has such a list of mechanical problems that the dyno operator cannot possibly run through in a 1hr dyno session, then its the owners fault. If both the dyno operator and the scoot owner do their part properly, but an air hose splits on the way home.....thats just bad luck.

But in any case, regardless of any particular scenario, there is always a place for EGTs, CHTs, and dynos......your description of snake oil is both incorrect and unfair, as is your generalisation that all dyno owner/operators are unscrupulous sharks.

I too have heard of dyno centres that lean up peoples scooters, with the express intention of showing increase BHP....and then the poor sods scooter seizes, such stories are in fact common place (sadly). However, as Sean says, other peoples practices are not our concern.....but even in their case, the dyno equipment is still not to blame is it.......you cant blame a piece of technical equipment for human fauilures. :roll:

maybe you could give us all a clue....as to which dynos.......you wont be using again..........................
no need to mention names of course............maybe just the district or part of county......... ;) ...............

I'm sure this is a ripping good time for the group of you to p155 on each other's dynos, so perhaps you can save that for a day when you're all face-to-face. I'll stand back here and watch the fur fly. :lol:

In the meantime, if a fellow Lambrettisti from across the pond might get some assistance, it would be greatly appreciated.

Getting back on track, Dave, as you live in the states why dont you ditch the dellorto and buy a mikuni, as have alot of people over here, in fact i sent to the states for 3 TMXs when it was $2 to the £ :D , ive a mate running a 35mm TMX on his 225 rapido after running a dellorto for years and he,s very happy with it now, you may get more addvice on the jetting if you do, i dont know anyone over here running a 28mm phbh on a 225, its a bit small for most tastes, regards.
