Yup, my AF 6 plate is def. slipping.

If I ride around "normally" there isn`t a problem but if I tug the throttle it slips as soon as the pipe kicks in.

What have I done wrong now when I fit it?

It feels more like a variator, as if the centrifugal forces in play open up the plates. :?

You have probably got the cable adjusted too tight. There isnt as much movement to seperate the plates as a standard clutch so if you set the cable up in the "normal" way the clutch will slip when you give it some crumpet.

That`s what I was thinking but i`ve slackend the cable so much that my lever is slack almost until it touches the grip.

Could I have the gear arm adjusted wrong? (I fit a new one when I took off thehydraulic jobbie)

In that case check for clearance between the top plate and the kickstart shaft. It could be the shaft is touching and slightly engaging the clutch, before you start grinding bits off it though make sure the shim and circlip on the outside are on right and holding the shaft properly.

Ahh, I see. That gives me something to work on at least.

The shaft is on snug and i didn`t think the kickstart shaft would be in a different place but I have changed the sidecase so that could make a difference,

oh, and back from the garage again and its sweating gearbox oil (I used a new cranckcase gasket) so I`m hoping you are correct and it`s an easy fix.

Had a similar issue, took new set of plates to Elvington as felt clutch was slipping at higher revs, after a couple of runs it gave up! Stripped to replace plates with racing type and found the last two plates stiff in outer bell which was not machined parallel and face of pressure plate was uneven with only 50% contact. Also had raised catsing mark on it not making contact luckily and would if touching clutch plates ripped them to bits! its now sitting on the crap bench till i get it machined to work correctly or take it back!! Did file crown wheel in situ to finish days racing although it didn't last much longer....
Actually liked the action of clutch with no drag and very smooth
Also look out for thick clutch return springs and eccentric crown wheels with Iwis chains

This was Indian version btw

I have the Indian "road" version.

I`m supposed to be riding to a rally next week and we only have 2, so would be gutted to miss it.

I have just a normal 5 plate clutch and when I gave it some welly, the clutch slipped. It was ok at normal speeds. Took case side off and the top clutch retaining plate was rubbing on kick start shaft. I ground it down slightly and not had a problem since.

Thanks fella`s.

I`m getting pretty desprate so phoned Jocky`s this morning to order a MMW type clutch but like LTH they are out of stock.

Anyway, not one to give up, I whipped off the sidecase and checked the the kickstart shaft and that doesn`t look like it has been rubbing and no marks on top of the clutch either.

On the other hand I do have 1.25mm of "wobble" on the clutch basket with the nut torqued up but no play on the spider or plates itself.

There are clear marks where the clutch basket is rubbing the gear bearing retaining circlip. (deep groove on the basket)

I removed the clutch and layed it on the bench face down and the "spider" is 0.5mm taller than the basket/sprocket.

Yes I have rememberd the clutch shim, which also shows signs of wear from the sprocket play.

Now I do know that this isn`t very kind to my chain but could this cause clutch slip?

Clutch appart.

There is uneven wear on bottom and top plate retainers. About 60% on the lower and 80% upper so they are pretty uneven.

I think i'ii chance it for the rally next friday but its def. Going back to the dealer when (if) I get home
