I agree here as I don't think you need a .01 mm of accuracy but using a steel rule has its draw backs here as its only accurate when at 90deg to gasket face

Interesting ! .. What sort of lambretta engine are you building ?? .. i use a 12" steel rule & a 150mm. steel rule with a steady ish .. hand . maybe youre thinking too much soulsurfer ?

Was thinking the same myself, there must be a production tolerance, also, what shims are used and are they used on the front or rear sprocket

Maybe I am over thinking this. I'm trying to build an engine as best as I possibly can as I believe this will bring its rewards, but shims are made by MB in 0.1mm increments, I assumed this was for a good reason. In Sticky's book it states the rear sprocket is allowed to be up to 0.25mm lower than the front, but no more than 0.05 higher, but I'm having trouble getting a consistent reading regardless, using a clutch compressor bar and digi vernier

I'll give the steel rule a go though as maybe the gasket face isn't as flat as I thought

ive never been able to get a constant reading in 4 positions on the sprockets im not sure there even made with that degree of accuracy ?

I'm gonna get some ground stock bar and ensure I measure from the same link on the same teeth in the same position every time, that way things remain constant... I hope
