Peel Hill climber Project

This was going to be a winter project 4 years ago! Finally getting it sorted.

This was taken when I bought it from Rod:



Have had engine done to original spec, saved the tv175 barrel and piston - needed new rings and crank - old type 200 conversion. Will be organising blasting in next few weeks and just need to decide colour scheme. Members of IOM Scooter Club are looking to see if they can find any history. Any information members have would be much appreciated. I think Rod also raced it on the track in England. Thanks Keith

Entrant No: 262 in the 1969 12th Isle of Man Scooter Week was R.M. Hewitt of Luton Lambretta Club.

The Peel Hill Climb was held on 23rd June 1969 and 262 was 5th in Class B, 150 - 260cc, with a time of 54.4 seconds.

Equal 6th was one R.F. Moss of Wallington.......

Great piece of history you have there - please conserve the legshields as they are and were!

Thank you for the very helpful information. Knew it was Rod but didn't know his surname. Are you able to let me know where you found the info as would be useful to have the source and be able to print it and retain for future reference.

I have a new set of leg shields for it and the old ones are being retained - hope it will help me get the registration number when restored.

I am in a quandary re what colour scheme to do. Looks like the original was hand painted and can't find any suitable car paint colours to match. Thinking of falling back on British Racing Green and the yellow/gold Lotus colours at it had Team Lotus stickers on it.
Currently, trying to dry build but having problems getting a decent fit with the leg shields , series 3 to a series 2 frame.

Think on Ron's website there are scanned copies of Scooter World and thought he was King of the Hill that year - will have to have another look.

Hi Keith,

Glad to hear that you are keeping the legshields!

I have the results for the 1969 IOM including the Hill Climb although at the moment I cannot find those for the Druidale and Sand Racing.

They are difficult to scan (on my scanner at least) for two reasons, firstly they are printed on foolscap size coloured paper and secondly they were in the days before 'proper' photocopiers and were run off on a Roneo or Gestetner duplicator.

PM your address and I will see if I can get them legibly photocopied.

Colour wise, my favourite is still Ford Aquatic Jade and white - very 60's!

PS King of the Hill that year was No: 286 - C.D. Prior of Eastleigh Hornets with a time of 52.0sec.

I do not know where your results came from, but R F Moss of Wallington was not 6th!

Hey Ron, lets not fall out over this but I got it from the official results sheets handed out at the end of the week's events.

I have managed to scan the results for the hill climb, (page 1 is in two parts as it is on foolscap paper) and page 2 lists No: 286 as King of the Hill. The results for the other events and awards are marked as provisional but not those for the hill climb (although they may have been).

Hope to pick up from welder in next couple of days, front struts have been moved back about an inch so series 3 leg shields will fit and had a few holes filled in. Then off to have the frame and bits blasted and powder coated. Will be on the road in 4 months!

Going to do it in Lotus British Racing Grenn and Gold.
