Rattling Stand

My centre stand rattles and scrapes the ground when cornering. There's a bit of hang and the spring is fine. Bolts are tight, but you can rattle the stand about.

Is there a cure?

Normaly if everythings tight as it should be and the stand still hangs down its ready for a new spring.

mines was the same,maybe your struts are out a bit.i tried new spring and it just hung the same as you describe.to cure it i found and old bed spring and it worked.stand no longer hangs down and drags going round corners.it sits nicly under the rear runner now as it should.

A stand is a much abused item, but much of the damage cause by kicking the engine over while ont he stand is found on the cross member. A real favourite, especially on Italian frames, is the way that the stand J-brackets distort the centre cross member around the bolt holes. These split the steel and lose their shape and the most effective way to deal with this is to heat and weld the holes back up and re-drill them. You need a thick rectangular plate behind the stand bolts.

All this makes a lot of difference to how the stand sits when it is up. Grease also helps as does the afforementioned new spring.

I have done all this work to my scooter, and the stand operates like it just came out of the factory, if not better. I also think it will last.

Ditto martin..I had holes filled with weld re drilled and fitted with plates..to be honest when first put together I was a bit worried it would fall off the stand the wheel was that far in there air but its setled now but still stands high...

Replacement Indian crossmembers I've had recently have a section of tube welded inside that the bolt passes through which beefs it up.

Been raining bilko on the east coast for 2 days mate...If your not able to get it welded Id go with strong (10mm thick) plates which will when nipped tight even if holes swelled open pull them back into true..I got stand/spring/hooks/nuts-bolts/plates from: http://www.glasgowlambretta.co.uk/ Good service and great guys...and it works..by the way sarg whats your real name ...bilko dont seem right..
