Lost 2 wheel studs

Had a quick 25 mile drive before tea. When I got home and was pushing the scooter I could here a knocking noise. Turned out I'd lost 2 rear wheel studs and the wheel was loose on the other 2

The thread in the hub has stripped on one stud position. Can the new stud still be torqued up as normally when fitted? I guess the studs are only there to help fit the wheel and it wouldn't make any difference if they were studs or bolts.

Having been in the position of losing 3 on the IOW last year I would warn against taking any risk. You only have 4 bolts holding your wheel on, Only last week I sheared a stud after changing the wheel on my other scooter and looking at the remaining studs I was very surprised at how thin the bolts were at the transition from 8mm to 10 (or is it 11) I opted to replace the lot, Yes a bugger to get the old ones out but double nutting worked. Not having a good solid hold on the hub would worry the s*** out of me. I would also check your rim and replace that if it shows any sign of elongated holes. I opted for an SR SIL hub and spent an evening in front of the telly with a small file removing all the flash seams off the casting and its as good as the original.

Never under estimate the importance of those little insignificant rear hub studs.

My mate Aitch found out ignoring a little knock, led to something a little more serious.
Unfortunately we didn't find the cause of the little knock until this:




Then it was blatantly obvious what the rattle was, when his rear wheel sheared and sent him and his female pillion airborne last year.

New wheel and studs on order. I've got some "thin" lock nuts so I'll use these with standard nuts locked together and "shakeproof" washers instead of Nylocs.
