Electrics: additional batter can this be done

I have an electronic ignition setup without battery. Then i decided i didnt want to mess with what was there but wanted some indicators and other electrics. So I added a 12v 7ah battery in the toolbox which is more than enough. Is it possible to use this to actually start the scooter or would i need more amps, if so how would i do it?

If you have the starter motor, flywheel, and aditional wiring thats required, then a 7amp battery would probably be just about big enough to start it...... but the scooters Ive seen with this setup used a 9amp battery which looks very similar to the Vespa one.....

if i have eletronic setup already, the norm on most scoots except mine is an old late 80's job with a vespa flywheel boss without fins and a plastic fan fitted, wouldnt i just need a starter motor, http://scootrs.com/images/all/battery_charger.jpg, regulator and a CDI, and according to some wiring diags a zener diode to keep the voltage = ??

The flywheel has a ring gear attached to the outer edge and the mag flange has a hole through the bottom widest pat for the starter motor to poke through.

ScootRs fit electric starts to some of their restorations but Randal doesn't offer it as a DIY option. I seem to remember him saying that it's not a fully sorted set of parts and needs a lot of fettling to get it to work. He has somehow got it into his head thatcustomers would be critical of him if he sold a less than fully developed product.......as if

Very easy to do, lots of different approaches, several threads on this site and many scoterists with a working knowledge of these systems.... its all down to what you want to power with dc and how much you want to spend to achive this setup... and if you want to try to keep it looking sort of standard original, or just make it work as cheaply as possible....

i want to keep the kickstart and it too look fairly standard. My battery at the moment site in the toolbox, powering front and rear indicators and a fuel sender. I was thinking what more i could do with it, eg not let lights dim when revs go down.

I have a CHT meter which i have decided to ditch in favour of an egt. I have the welded boss on the exhust sorted with sender in, but dont know where to put it on the front of the scooter, dont want to lose my spare wheel to a toolbox, just doesnt look right on my setup - any ideas? Ideally i would like both guages along with a 12v lighter socket for satnav or whatever.

I am running all this off an aux battery.

Anyone got gauges - would welcome pics even if they are with a front glovebox
