Can you not open up the crap ones and drill out where necessary? I've opened up cheap standard taps previously and had them flowing well, when I had an issue with a long range tank and the tap hitting the engine mount. The standard [Indian crappy] tap was shorter so cleared the mount.

This is what I'd try and do. I'll have a look at improving the cheap rear exit one I bought a few months ago before I knew about the issues.

I opened up my OMG petrol tap, it looked OK inside and is big enough. The only possible restriction I can see is the white plastic filter.
